Our Mission

“The greatest charity is to
enable the poor to earn a living.”

--Yiddish folk saying

ORT was established in 1880 Czarist Russia to give individuals the skills needed to become economically self-sufficient – a mission as relevant today as it was then. Today, with past and present activities in over 100 countries, more than 14,000 teachers and a student enrollment of almost 300,000, ORT has an unrivalled record in vocational education and training.

The Hermelin ORT Resource Center will continue the tradition of providing practical and marketable job skills training to at-risk populations and those in need of training or re-training for today’s technology oriented, competitive marketplace.

An ongoing schedule of classroom instruction and workshops will benefit not only the students, but also their families and the communities in which they live.

At ORT, education is our mission, and our emphasis is on human ability, productivity, pride and independence.
