Ambassador David B. Hermelin
embodied the very essence of the ORT mission. He believed strongly in education as a response to hunger, poverty and preservation of human dignity and he dedicated himself to ORT, serving as president of American ORT and president of World ORT.

Mr. Hermelin achieved international recognition as a diplomat, businessman, volunteer and philanthropist. He served as US Ambassador to Norway from December 1997 to January 2000.

In 2000, the Hermelin ORT Academic College in Netanya, one of the ORT Israel network’s most advanced colleges, was dedicated in his honor.

Women’s American ORT, American ORT and ORT Operations USA, in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and the Jewish Community Center, are proud to name this special place of Jewish learning and discovery in honor of David Hermelin.
